چکیده

The modification of land use is a crucial factor in the dysfunction ecosystems. It greatly influences hydrological cycle basins. This study focused on Oueme basin, which represents almost half total area Benin, and aimed to describe current future evolution its cover using maps Land Use Cover Dynamics project (1975, 2000, 2013). A temporal analysis surface states was performed with QGIS, potential 2025, 2050, 2085 estimated Markov chain algorithm IDRISI software. results showed that basin predominantly savanna (77.70% 1975, 66.29% 57.10% Forest areas, represented second class 1975 proportion 13.34%, gradually decreased 8.66% 6.89%, respectively, 2000 2013. Conversely, cultivated areas had more than tripled quadrupled Residential increased rapidly southern part an acceleration recent period (6% between 2013, against 2% 2000). probably led lower stability rate this zone (56%) compared upper (74%). affected by changes conditions, these are likely be amplified (probable disappearance forested 2085). We recommend clarifying impacts each category generates/will generate basin.

Monitoring and assessment of land use/land cover changes in Kashkan basin using futures studies approach in managing ecosystem services

Land use/cover change is one of the main factors in environmental changes. The changes directly affect the value of ecosystem services. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effect of land use/land cover change in the Kashkan area on its ecosystem services. This research was carried out in three stages, including the analysis of land cover changes, prediction of changes, and carbon st...

Semantic issues in Land Use and Land Cover Studies – Foundations, Application and Future Directions

After decades of accomplishments and faced with new technological and scientific insights, the field of land use and land cover (LULC) is seemingly at a crossroads for effective and open uses of data. The use of categorical LULC data in computer-based land analysis poses a significant challenge because it usually leads to a binary treatment of the information in subsequent analysis. Still, LULC...

Assessment of Terrain and Land Use/Land Cover Changes of Mine Sites using Geospatial Techniques in Plateau State, Nigeria

In this paper, we report a geospatial assessment of the selected mine sites in the Plateau State, Nigeria. The aim of this work is to determine the impact of mining on the terrain as well as the Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) of the host communities. The Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) is used for the terrain mapping. The derived impact of mining on LULC between 1975 and 2014 is determined...

Hydrological Responses to Land Use/Cover Changes in the Olifants Basin, South Africa

This paper discusses the hydrological impacts of land use changes on the Olifants Basin in South Africa using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). A three-phase land use scenario (2000, 2007 and 2013) employing the “fix-changing” method was used to simulate the hydrology of the Olifants Basin. Changes in land uses were related to different hydrological responses through a multi-regression...

Using MODIS Land-Use/Land-Cover Data and Hydrological Modeling for Estimating Nutrient Concentrations

This paper presents results on nutrient concentrations estimations in the Upper Tombigbee watershed (northern Mississippi-Alabama region, USA). It details the hydrological model development and its use for providing stream flow, runoff, and nutrient concentrations (total phosphorus, TP, and total nitrogen, TN) for subsequent biological studies. Geographical locations of data collection on fish ...
